UEFA Academy Online is worth knowing about because it is education coming straight from the governing body of European football, and it pushes you past the tactics board into leadership, governance, and the bigger picture of the game.

What sits behind the login

This is UEFA's online learning platform — courses and resources on football management, coaching, and the wider running of the game. It reaches into areas most coaching content skips: leadership, administration, the structures around the sport. You have to register, and not everything is aimed at a grassroots youth coach, but the perspective is genuinely different from a session-ideas blog.

Why the wider view helps me

I coach, but I have also had to manage people, parents, and the operational side of a club, and honestly that side is where a lot of coaches quietly struggle. Learning from how the game is led and organized at the top makes me better at the parts of my job that are not on the training pitch. And it connects to something I believe about players too — we are developing people, not just footballers. The same is true of coaches. The craft is only part of it.

Register and browse one non-tactical module — leadership or management. Pick one idea about leading people and apply it to a parent or player conversation you've been avoiding this week.

  • Federation-level education that reaches into leadership, management, and governance — not just tactics.
  • The off-pitch side of coaching (people, parents, operations) is where many coaches struggle; it's worth studying.
  • Developing people applies to coaches too — broaden past the craft.
